Ruth
Fleisher, a Ninety-Nine since 1942 and a Life member, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, in her home in Homestead, FL.
Ruth was born in Rochester, NY. She was 94 and had a sparkling, fun-loving personality. Before Ruth was grounded by Alzheimer's Disease she was an active member of the Florida Goldcoast Chapter
and Southeast Section. Ruth served as a Women's Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force
Reserve afterwards. She was one of the first women to work as an air traffic controller. She was also a flight instructor.
A proud member of the WASP, Ruth was in Washington, D.C. to
receive the Congressional Gold Medal. Ruth participated in the Powder Puff Air Races and served as a judge for National Intercollegiate
(NIFA) competitions. She helped the Goldcoast Chapter establish its scholarship program. Ruth and her husband, Bud, settled
in Homestead, FL on the edge of the Everglades. They built a home and established an avocado orchard there. Ruth continued
to manage the farm after her husband died.
